Displacement from forest land

Guna Naik, a tribal man from a remote village of Kalahandi district expresses his helplessness when he got the notice from the forest department to leave the land. “We have stayed there for generation and now where will go” is the statement of the tribal who is now in state capital to participate in the eight month long Satyagraha organized by Ekta Parishad. He has come here with a group of fifty people from the most backward and tribal dominated area of the state. When discussed with the other members of the group their foremost reply was that they are here to fight for their land their “mother earth”.
It is a story of the people who are fighting for their right over the land, the area has now been declared as tiger sanctuary. The area is at 50 kilometer distance from Bhawanipatna and densely covered with forest under the sanctuary area there are six panchayat which is know a Badaka area. As of Mr. Naik most of the village coming under the Badaka area are forest village which has no revenue status. No development work is being carried out in the locality.
Though the government talks about when speaking about rights of tribal but the reality speaks a different story altogether. They have to walk about 20 kilometers to get minor treatment which is the cause behind high level of mortality rate in the area. Education is distance dream for the poor tribals. There is school upto sixth class with two teachers but teacher are never seen. They have to bribe the forest guard for collection of mere fuel woods.
Now they are with the hope that their Satyagraha with Ekta Parishad will bring result. The mighty government may lend its ear to their grievances stop the would be eviction.

As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world... as in being able to remake ourselves.
